Acquiring a Cat

 Making the right choice.

Cats and other pets

Before you and your family choose a cat or kitten, you will need to take into consideration your existing pets, if any.

  • If you have a dog, you will need to introduce your feline friend with caution. The dog may well fell inclined to protect his territory from and alien-smelling animal. He might also become jealous of the newcomer.
  • You have already have a cat? A cat who is used to having it all his or her own way in your home will not take kindly to a fline newcomer. In this case, a kitten would be the wisest choice.
  • Pet mice, harmsters or rats? These would need to be watched carefully and safety ensconed in their respective cages. If let out indoors for execise, kitty must go in another room.
  • Perhaps you keep rabbits? Cats and kits have very sharp claws so that introductions and any subsequent play-times would need to be suprised.
  • Tropical fish will require a lid firmly fixed on the aquarium.
  • Caged birds pose another target for cats. Again, supervision or preferably separation will be required if and when the bird or birds are let out indoors.
