Cat's Play

Playing with your cat

Play is an essential part of cats lives - it exercises their bodies and provides an outlet for their predatory behaviour. In the kitten it teaches the all-important "life skills" - how to hunt prey, play with it and "kill" it. Play keeps the feline mind and reflexes alert. Play also strengthens the bond between you and your furry friend. When they are not sleeping, cats and kittens of all ages are always ready to play!

Solo games

Catnip mice: These are probably the most popular of all the cat toys. Lightweight cotton or fur fabric balls can also contain catnip.

Ping-pong ball: Ideal for solo games, since the roll easily and the cat can bat them, attempt to scoop them up and pounce on them as the balls roll about. All good practice for those "life skill!".

Toys on a string: All cats like to bat a dangling object - particularly a furry toy mouse, a feather or a brightly colored lightweight ball. Plastic balls which have cut-out designs are not recommended, since these could trap tiny paws.

Tips:
Ensure that all toys you purchase for you cat or kitten are feline-friendly - no small, sharp pieces, no loose beads or mouse eyes or sharp whiskers, etc. Clockwork toys are dangerous since cats can soon tear open the fabric body and quickly expose sharp metal parts. Ensure that stuffed toys are filled only with catnip or soft, shredded fabric - not rice or seeds.
